Seminar 14: Robert Hess
'The History of the Cocktail'

Robert Hess is a co-founder of The Museum of the American Cocktail.

He is the administrator of the organisation's website and managing editor of Mixologist; the Journal of the American Cocktail. He is also the creator of the universally recognized cocktail education website, DrinkBoy.com.

Hess, by profession, is a Technical Executive at Microsoft, a published author, and is widely known among his peers in the cocktail world as the ambassador of cocktails. He traces his interest in cocktails to a childhood fascination of bartenders who effortlessly transformed the contents of the bottles around them into gleaming jewels of refreshment. Eventually he took action on these early memories, absorbing all he could about the classic art of mixology. Using his culinary training as a canvas, he views cocktails as a cuisine with the same artistic flavour potentials as that of any French chef.

He provides authoritative and persuasive outreach to the public and to the food & beverage industry to increase recognition and respect for this unique and undervalued art.
