| Seminar 6: Mark Ridgewell |
| Bourbon - 'the history of America' |
| |
For over 30 years Mark Ridgewell dedicated his life and liver to the corporate world of spirits. Mark was inspired by years of fun at I.D.V. when that company was the inspiration of those passionate about spirits until then only witnessed in wines. He was energized at 'Hiram Walker', taking tequila, bourbon & liqueurs out of their comfort zones in America to the rest of the world. He was finally rewarded with the pleasure of talking to anyone, all over the world, who cared to hear about Kentucky's little gem, 'Makers Mark'.
In 1999, Mark left and set up 'Taste and Flavour', a network of speakers, all passionate about spirits and keen to share their knowledge. Taste and flavour encouraged the enjoyment of spirits as products of nature and not as the manufacture of marketeers, as luxuries to enhance their drinking experiences and not alcohol to abuse, as products of pleasure and not instruments of destruction, as potentially memorable drinking experiences and not the route to oblivion. Taste and Flavour has since provided an alternative voice to the media and a complement to brand activities, developing brand champions into product authority's top bartenders, into opinion formers and empowering all to make the informed choices and recommendations that increase the enjoyment of the spirits they sell. |
