| Seminar 8: Noel Sweeney |
| Irish Whiskey - 'the water of life' |
| |
| Noel Sweeney is a key member of the team at the heart of the award winning 'Cooley Distillery' range of whiskeys. Cooley Distillery have just been named Irish Distiller of the Year 2007 by no other than Whisky Magazine , beating the industry giants Bushmills and the makers of Jameson into second and third place respectively.
Cooley is the only Irish owned independent Distillery left in Ireland and Noel Sweeney is the Quality Assurance Manager/Blender for the company, responsible for the liquid in the bottle back to the grains received at the distillery in Co Louth. He joined the celebrated entrepreneur John Teeling and his merry band back in 1989 so can claim to be one of the original bravehearts who shared a vision of bringing Irish Whiskey back to its position of former greatness on the world stage.
Noel has gained experience with many leading Scotch and Irish Blenders and Distillers and in recognition of his expertise has been a judge with the International Wines and Spirits Competition in London for several years. This position has given the man from Cooley an in-depth knowledge of the Whiskey market generally and the Irish category particularly. Today Noel manages several thousand casks of the maturing whiskies that the Cooley Distillery produces and market around the world. |
